Once Brisbane based turned Bondi local, Jess Piercy has brought so much to our team since joining Assembly Label in 2016. Coming from a background in graphic design but looking to step back into the retail space, she was first drawn to Assembly for its clean and minimal aesthetic.
Encompassing her shared love for design, fashion, retail and people Jess naturally felt the brand to be a perfect fit and began by working in our James Street store in Brisbane. Since moving to Sydney last year to manage our Bondi store she recently stepped into the additional role of Cluster Manager, overseeing all of our Sydney locations.
As a seasoned expert in coastal living, we spent a day out with Jess visiting some of her favourite spots in the Bondi neighbourhood, a place that has become a pleasure for her to call home.
Tell us about your journey from Brisbane to Sydney.
I was eager to spread my wings and the idea of moving to Sydney had been on my mind for a little while. An opening for the Bondi Store Manager came up and I jumped at the chance. To work with a fantastic brand in a beautiful environment and connect with people every day was just what I was looking for.
What are some of the things about your current roles that you most enjoy?
Every day is different for me and I love the variety. Since starting with Assembly I’ve now progressed to Cluster Manager overseeing all of our beautiful Sydney stores. It means I could be guiding the team at the Manly store one day, helping to plan out the arrival of new stock at the Surplus store in Alexandria the next, or providing continual support at my home store in Bondi on other days. I love working with people and being a part of a team who are all so passionate and dedicated to the direction of the brand is an added bonus.
Where would we typically find you on the weekend?
You’ll most likely find me out and about walking in nature, jumping onto my yoga mat at a vinyasa class, catching up with friends over lunch, tinkering on my piano making music, and when it’s warm enough a dip in the ocean is a must for me most days.
You seem to have really found a home in Bondi. What is it you love most about the neighbourhood? Why here rather than elsewhere?
The people, the energy and the ocean are what drew me to Bondi. I’ve definitely found a base here and grounded my feet firmly in the sand, so to speak. I feel like there’s a buzzing, creative community here with so many people from all walks of life. I’m constantly inspired by my network of friends and the local folk I meet along the way.
Where are some of your favourite places to visit?
I love attending Body Mind Life for the A-grade yoga teachers and an inspiring space to work out. For delicious food and lovely people I always look to Porch and Parlour which is situated right by the beach. And for coffee, which is my weakness, you simply cannot beat a soy latte from Bennett Street Dairy located on Bondi road.
Are there any additional spots in the neighbourhood you feel are a must to explore?
Orchard St. is my go-to destination for a delicious cacao elixir on a beautiful sunny afternoon. For a night out catching up with friends, I can’t go past Taqiza for dinner - their tacos and margaritas are the best in town! And don’t forget a sauna and swim session at the iconic Icebergs.
