A Collaboration Celebrating Light & Design

We’ve collaborated with McMullin & Co to create a beautiful one-of-a-kind piece; a rice paper lamp, inspired by minimalist contemporary design.

What started with a coffee between two creative directors became a collaboration with two like-minded brands. McMullin & Co, founded by Alice McMullin, shares a lifelong passion for simple design. Alice has consistently gravitated towards sustainability over mass production, a choice evident in her brand ethos and reflected in the thoughtful design of her products.

The Assembly Label x McMullin Rice Paper Lamp is the product of this unique collaboration between fashion and furniture. United in their commitment to combine aesthetics with utility, this lamp reimagines contemporary minimalism, ideal for adorning tabletops or desks. Featuring clean lines and a soft rice paper shade, its versatility effortlessly enhances and illuminates any space it inhabits.

The conversation started off open-ended, delving into various creative concepts to find a collaborative opportunity for our brands. Eventually, we decided to focus on lighting. During discussions on materials, rice paper emerged as the top choice due to its alignment with both brands' design sensibilities.

We aimed to develop a collapsible product that was easy to assemble. After finalizing the concept, we went through numerous iterations, designs, and samples, dedicating time to refine the product to achieve timelessness and texture, ensuring it seamlessly integrates into any home. Utilizing simple raw materials such as Japanese rice paper, a steel frame, and a candle bulb, we combined elegance with practicality to bring our vision to fruition, resulting in the final design as it stands.
